Recovery strap 2" or 3"?

Hi all,

Looking for some advice regarding recovery straps. I am looking to grab a 30' Smitty Built strap from Amazon but need a little guidance regarding the thickness. There is a 2" and a 3" rated at 20 and 30k lbs respectively. I have a 2007 V8 and just want it in my bag for helping people (or myself) stuck in the snow or wherever.

Please let me know what you recommend.

Either one of those should be fine. 2' is certainly good enough for your 4runner. If you run into someone with a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck you'd probably want a 3.

Bigger than that and they'll become less effective for pulling your own truck.

There is a bunch of info on here and the web regarding recovery gear. I'd look into kinetic recovery straps vs simple snatch straps.

2" is plenty and you will never come close to its rating. 3" is overkill.

Wider is always better, if the price difference isn't too bad. I'd grab the 3", never hurts to be over prepared. Otherwise the 2" will be fine.

What kind of strap is it? A "Snatch"or "Recovery" strap is better than a tow strap because the tow strap is not elastic.

It is a strap that does not stretch. I just want to make sure that i won't be missing out on anything getting one vs the other.

For the extra 10 bucks just get the wider strap... don't cheap on recovery supplies

The one in your link is a tow strap, not a snatch strap..

Spring for the 30', which usually ends up being a 3". Some times it helps to be that much farther up the hill / out of the mud..

If you're using this strap for being "yanked" out of sticky places you want to get the Snatch Strap because of its elasticity. The link shows a Tow Strap which isn't what you want.

Ok thanks for the replies guys! You are right...should definitely get a "snatch" strap. I'm gonna grab that 7/8" 30' Bubba Strap and call it a day.
