redarc1225D Dual battery

I posted this to a similar topic, but recived no responces so I am posting to a new thread.

I am installing the redarc1225D and removing my Nantional Luna dual battery system, that never worked right with the 4runner system. I need to run a wire to power the unit, I need to run the blue wire to an ignition power source. Not sure if I should use a fuse tap and what to tap into? or splice into something like the daytime running lights that has power? I will also be installing solar to my system. I linked a great youtube video where he used an older solenoid system similar to the National Luna to use as a jump starter. I would love to have my system to have that option. I built a tray, but now relize the aluminan tray holds the heat. I need to either cutout holes to vent more or add washers to raise it off the tray.

Not trying to be a dick, but you may have bitten off a bit more than you can chew doing a diy battery system if you can't find an ignition switched power source.

I'm a master electrician, and work on lots of multi battery systems. Dual battery setups are no joke, and if you don't know what you're doing it's not hard to get yourself into a lot of trouble that could result in a fire.

Youtube can be a good source of info, but it absolutely does not replace hands-on experience. I'd suggest you find a shop that specializes in this sort of thing, if for no other reason than to give yourself some peace of mind that your install won't burn your truck down.

I would echo Jono.ful’s response here. I have a similar setup using the Redarc but opted not to have a push button jump start option. It’s way cheaper and easier to just keep a set of cables in the truck and jump it if you need to. But, if you’re using the Redarc correctly the idea that you’d need to jump start your truck at some point is pretty remote.
I’d also say that I did all of my own install mainly because I wanted to learn how everything worked so that I could fix it myself in the field. This meant that my install took a long time and cost WAY more that it would had I’d paid someone to do it.
Bottoms line: if you want to learn it then plan on spending lots of time and money. If you just want it to work so you can enjoy
It then pay someone to do it.

I already Installed a system before, and this system is 95% already up and ruining I think the setup will be fine. As per the jump, I am only considering it since I have the stuff and the cost is already paid for. Redarc sells its solenoid that can be used for this purpose already. I just wanted to see if the national Luna product could do the same thing. I plan to add a gauge for Amp level. The system itself was easy to install. I just need to connect the blue wire and not sure what method I should use.

I agree with the posts above...but you asked.
On the fuse panel up under the dash, there is a fuse marked IGN.
put an ADD -A- Circuit in there and connect the blue wire. It carries very little in the way of AMPS. It is a trigger circuit.
An added note: I run a similar setup with the RedArc. DO NOT cut corners on fusing. DO NOT allow wires to just flop loose under the hood.
A nice clean, thoughtful and fused system is a safe system.

Just buy an Add a circuit from your local automotive store and run it through the grommet and into the fuse block located under the steering wheel panel. If you do that, make sure you find a place to secure the fuse cover as it will not snap back into place. If you want to tap into an ignition circuit without going through into the cabin then perhaps you can find/test a circuit that turns on with the ignition and use that.
