Refrigerator in the 4runner?

So ive seen plenty of guys on various toyota forums with fridges in the rear or backseat of the 4runner.... we have one that my parents bought about 5 years ago for a road trip to Vegas and it has been sitting in the garage since and well i decided that i should just put it in the runner so it will get some use out of it. It is a cooler/refrigerator and don't remember the brand off the top of my head tho i will look at it tom sometime but it plugs into the cig port.

Can u guys who have them tell me wat u like best about having it in the 4runner and if u keep it in there at all times (unplugged even) or if u remove it from the 4runner when not in use. If u guys have any pics of how u mounted it and where in ur 4runner that would also be greatly appreciated.

I'd like more info on them also. How much do they hold and how well do they work? How long does it take to get it cool enough to keep the drinks cold? Do you have to keep the door open when not in use?

Well i know that it all depends on which brand u get... like the ARB costs alot more then most but is able to keep the core at a lower temp and gets colder at a faster rate. There are some guys who have put ice cream into the ARB re-fridges which im sure i cant do in the one i have... i think the one i have my parents paid around $75-150 but im not certain.

Well this is sort of wat im looking at doing but would still love some feedback on setups like these...

I would definetly mount it on something that easily removed since unless you are constantly using it it is a waste of space to keep in there permenently.

i like the way they mounted it in the one from expo, looks really clean but i think i would mount it on a slide so that you can access it easier without having to climb in the truck, then maybe just strap it down to the slide so that you can easily remove it when youre not using it.

I didn't want to permanently take up room in the rear of the truck, so mine is setup so it can quickly be installed for trips. It's mounted in the back seat and doesn't need to be moved if I sleep in the truck when camping.

thnx matt, ill read the write up but ya im thinking but changing up the rig a bit so might be making low profile cargo drawers and adding the refridge and making a custom sub box. Im still unsure since money is tight and trying to get most mods done with wat we have laying around and wat i can afford.

So i plan on using it in the rear instead of the back seat bc my 4runner is typically full with 4-5 ppl and sometimes 6 on long trips and especially now that i have a 14 month old who has to have the seat in the center of the back row its not really an option. I like the rear idea but still looking more into it and hopefully getting more feed back on it.

I checked and cleaned the portable cooler/refrigerator so now it looks nice and clean but is missing the power cord but i was able to find it on amazon for $8.30 and i have a prime account so i can get it shipped to me in 2 days. The cooler i have is about 4-5 years old and is now discontinued but was about $150-200 new. This is definitely not as great quality as those Engel and ARB ones but this was FREE! BTW, I have an Igloo KoolMate 40.
