Regular or Premium Gas

Hello,

Just wonder if it will improve the gas milage if I fill up with Premium. Which one you guys using in your 4R? Any advise? Thanks

I was using midgrade until recently, when I started using regular, and I haven't noticed a change in mileage since I downgraded.

I have always used regular. Also with the gas prices where they are just now, I question if it would be worth it to get a 1-2 mpg improvement while paying almost 20-30 cents extra per gallon for the premium.

Nothing but aviation fuel for my TE... I get frequent flyer miles with that too.

Actually, percentage-wise, it's more worth it when the price of gas goes up...that is...if you believe you are getting about 10% better mileage.:cheers:

20mpg at $4/gal = 5 miles per $

22mpg at $4.20/gal = 5.239 miles per $

(think the math is right)

Regular for me. In the diesels i tried to find as high of Cetane as possible though.

The more ethanol that is added and the more the gas is oxygenated, (seem to do more of that during the winter months around here) the worse the gas mileage. Used to think corn was for eating, now it has yet another purpose in life.

Hope you're just joking. Aviation fuel (100LL) is selling for over $6/gallon in the midwest and over $7/gallon on the east coast. As if that's not enough to keep you away, think about what the lead content (yes, aviation fuel still uses lead to boost the octane to 100) is doing to your O2 sensors, catalytic converter, etc.

Premium is only required to reduce knock. MPG is not affected.

Of course I'm joking. Not so however with my neighbor with his 67 big block 427 Corvette. I think he puts about 200 miles a year on that vehicle and really does burn aviation fuel in it.

My buddy with a 63 vette does the same thing. Gotta love the racecar smell of burning high-octane leaded fuel!

I remember trying to keep up with national level enduro riders just so I could smell the mix of race gas and Bel Ray synthetic 2 stroke oil coming out of their exhaust. Long time ago, but at least I remember.

Down here where I live, I've found ethanol-free gas, and it's roughly 10 cents more a gallon, so I use premium ethanol-free in my Corvette, and regular ethanol-free in my T5 4R-Limited. Extreme case, it cost's me maybe $2.50 more, a fill up. :cheers:

I also run premium in my 335i, and regular in my SUV.

I also work for the man (an oil company), prices are little high right now - we need to make about roughly $75 per/bbl to continue to make it worth our while to actually spend money to go drill which in theory should all things equal makes for gas around $2.25 - $2.50 (pending transportation cost, octane levels, etc), which i think everyone can agree is reasonable compared to the prices now.

I was actually wondering this last week so I did fill up with the best which is premium 93 here in Massachusetts. On regular 87 I was getting 16.8 mpg. With the premium, I am getting 17.0 mpg. So as you can see, yea, not much of a difference and not worth it at all.
