Relatively quiet tires

Removed the Nittos from my list and added the Coopers, but the Toyos have been the leaders for some time, and probably still are..

I skimmed and didn't see it mentioned, but TireRack will give you the relative road noise for tires in a particular class. Might help you narrow down your list.
 
Number 6 for Cooper AT3. It’s all will run going forward. I have ~15k miles on mine and they still look brand new.

Best is the wet traction is great!
 
I have been doing some research and I think the new Continental Terrain-Contact are very quiet in the road and maintain a somewhat aggressive All Terrain pattern.

Where in NY are you located? I have a set of Nitto Terra Grappler take offs from my TRD Pro that I can get rid of cheap if you want to give it a shot. It has under 4000 miles on them. PM me if you are interested.

If not interested, I do recommend the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. They are, however, very heavy at 52lbs each.
 
Nice work Forum people...you coulda skewered this guy for asking about tires/tire noise...but instead everyone joined in...and gave some reasonable responses...some even included decibel readings from sensors and the like. :biggrin2:

Oh and the AT3's come in 275 C load...hard to find niche there....

Thanks again for all the good responses.. The Toyos and Cooper AT3's look very similar, so, to my thinking, should perform similarly?
 
Can anyone chime in on Michelin Defender LTX? Theyre very well rated on tire rack. P-rated and one of the lightest if not lightest tire in OEM size.
 
I've always been a big fan of BFG KO2's. To me they're quiet and great for snow and ice and all around wheeling.

I just ended up putting on a new set after driving 20k with Goodyear MT/R's, definitely NOT a quiet tire, sucks in snow and rain and ended up 'cupping" even though I rotated every 3k. Never again.

I can't say enough good things about them... In my opinion they are second to none when it comes to quietness, comfort, dry/rain performance, and gas efficiency. Give them a real serious look if you do a lot of highway miles. someone earlier said they were overpriced and I have to disagree. You can easily get 90K out of them depending on your vehicles shape and driving habits. Also another big misconception is that they suck in the snow which couldn't be further from the truth. Yes in a foot of snow on a unpaved road the Defenders will never be match for a good AT tire in those conditions. But I had driven in many blizzards and they have never skipped a beat. As far as offroad performance they will do light trails with no problems...rock crawling...NO. Years ago this spot I went hunting on had a very steep and rocky driveway that was an absolute shit show to drive up or down when it rained or snowed (A few of the guys have dented fenders to prove my point). Most of the other guys had full size trucks with Bfgoodrichs KOs and a few with Duratracs but they were always amazed how easily my 2003 Tacoma made it up the hill with my Michelin LTX's. They are boring to look at but they are almost impossible to beat for my usages.

I have KO2's on current 4 Runner because I wanted to try them. So far, impressed by them. My usage is about 90% road and 10% off Road. My previous two runners, had the LTX's on them. Great Road tire and good in the snow. I have had them in Snow +24"s without issue. Excellent wet/dry traction, track great and quiet. I also had 60k on one runner sold to nephew and last one at 45K and both had plenty of tread remaining.

definitely wont hesitate to get ltx's now... I would love to try some KO2s but the tread design isnt ideal for mpg. Price is also more than the LTX's which makes sense because BFgoodrich is owned by Michelin.
 
Road Venture AT51

You may want to look at the Kumho Road Venture AT51...I just put on a set and they are just as quiet as the OEM for now. They are relatively inexpensive as well. Can't attest to the off road/snow capability, but they are rated as such. Good luck hunting!

Being that these are quite a bit heavier than stock tires, did you take a noticeable hit in mileage/acceleration/braking? Really want to go this route but the weight is the only thing holding me back.

I have a 2004 Tahoe Z71 and have been very pleased with the noise level of the Yokohama Geolandar's. Aggressive enough for light offroad use, look tough (I like the raised white letters) and are very quiet.
