For those who may be interested -
I had front & rear bumpers built by Relentless Fabrication, located in Sparks, Nevada. (Close to me, in Reno.) They do steel and aluminum; I chose aluminum for the lighter weight (roughly half of the steel weight) and rust resistance. I also had them powdercoated black.

Pics of my 2008 4Runner are below. My 4Runner is on stock coil springs, on Bilstein 5100 shocks (set at 0.85" front), with 255/75/17 Goodyear Silent Armor tires on stock wheels (no spacers).
Front bumper accepts a winch with remote solenoid pack. I mounted a license plate over the winch fairlead cutout -- may install a winch later, then I'll figure out something else for the license plate.
Front bumper options: cutouts and brackets for 4" lights (not installed); I plan on using lights with a driving light pattern, and connecting them to the stock foglight switch -- going to keep the lights at 55W, like the stock foglights, so no need for relays or different wiring.
I chose to skip the upper tubing (grill guard), but they do that too -- look at the website.
Relentless usually cuts in larger holes in the front bumper for access to the winch freespool lever (see website for examples). I chose to skip this; if I get around to mounting a winch, I can access the lever by opening the hood. (See pic below that shows the inside of the bumper where the winch would fit.)
Rear bumper options: receiver hitch. I didn't want an external tire carrier; I do not plan on using tires any larger than the 255/75 that are currently installed, and a 255/75 spare still fits in the stock under-the-rear storage space. (A 265/70/17 is about the same size, and will also fit underneath.) The rear bumper is notched for clearance for the spare tire drop-down rod, like the factory one.
Below: the fit of the front bumper up against the grill, and then from roughly the same angle with the hood up -- showing the space for mounting a winch:
