Reliable Tire Gauge?

Yes, I can admit, I am anal when it comes to tires. I research Tire Rack all the time, I replace my tires every year or two, and I check the pressure every weekend.

For the past 3 years, I've had a Brookstone digital tire gauge, and it seemed to have worked pretty well. As it's on its last legs, I've been looking for another one.

Well, Brookstone doesn't sell the same model anymore, and I don't like their others, so I ended up getting a cheaper, though still digital, model from Auto Zone. Here's the problem - the two gauges differ by 1 1/2 - 2 psi. The Brookstone gauge will say 33 psi on a tire, while the Auto Zone gauge says 31. Just makes me wonder which one is correct.

Anybody out there have a good, reliable, accurate gauge? And if so, what kind is it and where did you get it?

Thanks in advance to all of my 4Runner family.

I got one for like $30 at Costco... compared it to several different ones and they are all the same pressure reading so either they're all screwed up, or they're reading accurately. I haven't had any problems with mine... its a vast improvement from the silver graduated stick type.

You are anal..... if your tire pressure is off by 1 PSI your tires will be fine, it's the people that drive around 20PSI low that scare me.

:iagree:

If we keep the Volume constant then the Pressure is directly proportional to Temperature (Ideal Gas Law). So, in reality, you can't be that accurate with your tire pressure as it is different at different temperatures. A 1-2 psi difference, plus or minus, is no big deal. I run my 4Runners at 40 psi (all around) and check them when the tires are at ambient temperature using a sliding stick guage purchased at Home Depot.
