Remote door opener horn sound

Good afternoon fellow 4RNR's. I just purchased a 2008 4 RNR (Urban Runner). When you go to open the door using the remote access on the key chain the horn beeps three times. Is there anyway this can be overidden to just blinking the lights with no horn sound? If so can I do it or does it have to be taken back to the dealer to accomplish this adjustment. Need to know fast as it is becoming very annoying. Thanks

Sounds more like an aftermarket alarm system than a standard 4runner feature.

Its not an aftermark alarm feature. I just bought an 08 runner and it does the same thing. It sounds like a Lexus beeping when you lock or unlock the doors and i find it annoying also. Just the lights flashing would be fine.

I have the beep also but two times, but Spanky is talking about the Horn.

Yea i just saw where they wrote horn. Maybe spanky ment what were talking about. Guess we gotta wait for the reply.

If it's a horn sound it's an aftermarket alarm system that's added to it. If it's the beep sound (some call it microwave sound), that's factory. You can take it to the dealer have them disable it through the C-BEST settings or unplug the beeper. I don't know the exact location, but there's a thread that mentions it's along the driver side fender by the master cylinder and fuse block. It should be a black round object like a hockey puck, IIRC.

Thanks for all the quick help. I finally found a service writer at one of the local Toyota dealers that knew the problem. My 4 RNR has an additional after market alarm (dealer installed) that disables the engine should a window be broken out to gain access to the vehicle. It has a small button under the dash that has a reset. By turning on the ignition and holding the button in for 5 seconds it replaces the horn sound with a much quiter beep. Thanks for all the help. It is nice to know there are other 4 RNR owners out there with a great volume of knowledge I can draw on. Thanks again!!!
