has anyone yanked out the stock security system and installed an aftermarket security system and a remote start here? if you have, what kind of problem have you ran into? I have installed alarms before, just wondering what problems will I run into when I do this, if there is any.

thank you for the help,

i have a remote start on mine. but i bought the car with it on there it acts up all the time. it always has to try twice for it to turn over. i have no idea why. and everyonce in a while it will try to start for about 30 secs but never successfully turn over. it just wines and then trys a second time and starts right up. its weird. and now my remote isnt currently working i cant unlock, lock or start my car. sucks not being able to warm the car up from inside my house hahahah and the biggest problem is im not sure what brand it is either. so i cant look into reset codes or anything

im sure this isnt any help to you but you said youve done alarms before. ever heard of anything like that?

I didn't have the stock alarm system, but you don't get much more basic than the 4runner for installation.

would i need a transponder/bypass for the auto start? like i said the key does not have a chip in it.

thank you,

I am doing an install on my 1996 4Runner, looking for as much information as I can. I will be installing a Python 1401 and I cannot find much as far as installation instructions go. I have the stock alarm system on the truck. Do you know if I can install the starter and still use the original system for the alarm? I would like to use the python remote for starting and unlocking the truck. Any information prior to the install would help greatly. Thanks!

WOW! my thread just got jacked...:AK47:
and yes, you can use the stock alarm and install an auto start, you can even your aftermarket fob to control all.

thank you for the help,

Keeping in mind that it's a later model than a 98, there should be nothing to pull out, I don't think. Should be very straight forward (I sure hope it is, since I am installing my Viper 5701 tomorrow) give me a few minutes, I will try to find you the wiring...

Check this out. Reference post 2 (the links just take you to the site, you will have to enter your vehicle info) Of course check the wires before splicing and taking their word for it.

thank you,

If you're 100% sure your key does not have a chip, you will not need a bypass.

I had a Clifford remote start/security installed in my 99 limited (5 yrs ago) and just recently i found out my factory keyless remote still locks and unlocks my truck. I guess they never uninstalled the original system. Plus, i had to also install a bypass security to remote start the truck.

That is because 1999 and newer there is no actual module for the keyless entry. It's all just in the wiring harness somehow... I believe it's virtually impossible to "uninstall" that stuff.

I yanked out the stock VIP alarm in my 98 before I took it to the shop to install the Python 991. Good thing about the VIP system is that it was "port-installed" which made it relatively easy to uninstall. Most of the connections were made with those 3M wiretaps.
