Remote Start-Even dealer said go after market!

The comment I made about not being able to unlock the doors -- driver's side only --

you do realize that's a owner's programming feature. its in the manual for the 2014+.

I switched mine via techstream to unlock all doors instead of just the drivers door only.

and I changed the way the doors lock, once it hits 14mph the doors lock, default is to lock/unlock leaving/going into park.

did you check their dealer locator? where are you in VA?
I have customers drive 8+ hours one way to come to me :P

I'm in Portsmouth,Va. about 15-20 miles from Va. Beach. The problem is not driving somewhere, the problem is if it needs service. I checked the dealer locator and nearest one is 70 miles away.

70 miles isn't that bad. I have to drive 80+ miles just to do decent grocery and clothes shopping much less anything else. 70 miles is round trip to work.

If you read my original post, I don't have a starter yet installed. The very nature of my post was to solicit advice on which product may work best.
Sure understood, there were I think a minimum of three others looking too. Sorry I got confused.
The comment I made about not being able to unlock the doors -- driver's side only -- came from reading about some of the junk systems out there. I remarked that the fact that the car shuts off is hilarious. It's not literal.

Sure the first worry is junk systems, I think a bigger worry, one gshadow325 also brought up, is low wage junk installers hacking apart your brand new car ;): Getting lucky enough to know someone that actually knows what they are doing, is kinda like winning the lottery. To each his own.

The reason I think you do hear a lot of remarks about the factory start is it simply works, big deal it shuts off, it actually shuts itself off after 5 minutes anyway, and its totally plug and play.

I did chuckle, you painted a funny picture in my head of "someones" wife standing there shivering whilst one was inside of a nice toasty vehicle. That's all.

heh, glad you enjoyed it :)

No worries. Just trying to drill down to what's right for the truck -- and my needs. I am going to a compustar dealer who does know his stuff. I asked about wire coupling and he went into great detail about why one particular method is advantageous over another for a climate like ours. I do get the impression that there are really widely varying levels of experience in the market, and there is no way I would trust my new truck to a joker that learned the trade on YouTube.

That said, any experience with any of the models I mentioned? Also, what does everyone see as an appropriate price point in stalled with a bypass module?

Thanks again.

Thanks. That was a good thread for delineating the different issues being discussed here.

That said, I believe there have been takeover advancements since then. For instance, I'm pretty sure the ADSALCA units have takeover capabilities now. I say that only because that's the unit that I was advised to install, and was assured it allowed for takeover.
