Remote start for 2013?

I just learned Toyota has a remote start for my 2013 4Runner Limited. Anyone have experience installing this or purchasing the pats? Toyota quoted me $380 and of course the dealer came in higher at $460 with the addition of several hours of install time. It works through a sequence of button pushes on the key-fob. I'm hoping it's something I can install myself.

Thanks But...
I'm not looking for an alarm, I'm looking to upgrade to Auto-Remote-Start and only if it is a Toyota product.

Toyota has a manufactures Auto-Remote-Start for this car that operates off of the key Fab. The dealer said it is a complicated install of multiple parts that takes several house. I typically do not believe much of what a dealer tells me so, I'm hoping someone knows about the equipment and if I can install it myself?

Your welcome but did you read the thread at all? Or I hope i didn't waste my time for getting you the link?

In that thread it explains a lot of issues you will be running into with a limited 5th gen.

Wasted you time, Really...Jeez.

If someone actually has information on the (TOYOTA manufactured, Toyota option, Toyota installed and warrantied) remote-start option that can be purchased installed with a 2013 4Runner or added later, I would very-much appreciate hearing about it and if I can do the install myself. And again, this is a Toyota made product and option on 4Runners....it is not any type of after-market alarm or remote-start.

GOOD!

Now anyone who is not interested in being a victim please help me re-start this post and make it useful...anyone?

If the 2013 Toyota unit is like my dealer quoted for my 2015, it has limited range, the motor shuts off when the door is opened and the dealer needs to make changes to your computer with the Techstream to activate it. So 2 PIA operational issues and possibly you may be able to install the parts but not get the system working without the dealer's assistance. I chose to go with small aftermarket start only fob with much more range. Your call as to what you prefer.

badspell68- what is it about the Toyota remote start that makes you want it so bad?

Do you know for sure if Toyota actually makes their own RS? A lot of times somebody else makes it for the mfgs. So really it's aftermarket anyway.

As far as installation of the Toyota RS, I've never installed one of those so I can't help you there. I have used one on a demo vehicle and I wasn't very impressed with range or the engine shutdown with door unlock. However, if you are dead set on the Toyota RS and DIY install, I would try to work with your dealer. They should be able to help you out with some sort of install instructions. You may be able to get them to reflash your 4runner for little or no charge if you buy it there. Some dealers do, some don't.

FWIW, you can install an aftermarket RS without alarm (or even door lock capabilities).

I'm simply looking to start my 4Runner from my house on cold days, nothing more. Toyota warranties the truck and starter equipment, so who makes it is not all that important to me. It looks as if I'll have the dealer do the install as I can't find install or part information.
