Key Fob Remote Start Stopped Working

I can't find any discussion similar to my problem.

Several months ago I felt my OEM battery was on its way out so purchased a new one. After I finished the install, the Remote Start with Key Fob stopped working.

This is the only change made prior to discovering the issue. I don't use remote start everyday or even every week, so I suppose the issue could have been present prior to the battery change out.

In the fuse diagrams I've seen, I don't see that there's a fuse for this feature and I can't find any component related to this.

Where to start looking? Is this all firmware/software controlled and needs a Dealers computer to correct it?

Open the bonnet (hood) and slam it shut. This usually works for me.

I think toyota turned mine off-------it worked great for the first 2 years, but I got a notice that they wanted me to pay to have features that I though I bought continue to work.... chizzlers / really disappointed

Yep, looks like exactly what happened.

I went ahead and purchased the APP and now the Key Fob can be used as well as the APP.

The App is crude BTW. Don't trust it as a couple of times it had some lame excuse not to start the truck.

Welcome to the future where a feature you paid for can be taken away and buried behind a subscription paywall.

I use this (Pardon Our Interruption...) on my 2023 4Runner and have used other similar ones from eBay in my other runners without problems. They are easy to install and work without issues. The one installed in my 2012 lasted 12 years. I had to replace it late last year.

My 2021 still starts from the FOB without issue. I don't pay any sub for connect or whatever either. Is your FOB battery healthy?
