Removal of cargo shelf.

Is it possible to remove the optional rear cargo shelf system from a 2005 4runner?
Didn't want the option but it came with the vehicle that had everything else I wanted.

Instead of removing it, why not just lay it down to the lowered position. It doesn't really take up a lot of space....

Well my issue was that my dog couldn't get a grip on the top of the shelf and would slide around the back. He seems to be able to keep himself still when on the carpet though.

That may not matter to him and in that case it really is unobtrusive.

Oh, that makes sense...

I guess it would make sense then to remove it vs getting one of those carpet mats or rubber ones, which would probably give a good gripping surface, but they do cost $$ while just removing the double deck is free....
