Okay, if I can figure out how to post pictures, I'll share my images of taking down the overhead console...
If you move the rear view mirror down away from the ceiling, you will see two small groves along the front edge of the overhead console, nearest the glass. Using a small flat head screw driver, push into the grove and it will release the retaining clip and the front portion of the console where the crawl control knob is (Trail Edition model - I think this is a sunglass holder on the SR5 and Limited) will drop down and hang by its wiring harness. Press the wiring harness clip and it comes loose.
This reveals two screws that have phillips / hex heads. (Not sure of the mm size since I used the phillips to remove). Once both of them are out, gently pull down and the entire overhead console will come loose and you can easily disconnect the wiring harness and move out of your way.
Installation is just a reverse insertion of the test above. Very simple removal overall.
