Remove The Flares or Not!?

I have 35's on my 4runner for the first time. Today when I was at full flex my drivers side front tire ripped my flare right off in one quick motion...

I picked it up and it just damaged the replaceable clips, so I can put it back on. Now I am thinking, if I put it back on it will just happen again...

I am debating removing all of the plastic flares, feeling the holes, and doing some kind of truck bed/durbak lining where the flares used to be like in this link below:

What do y'all think? Should I do it or not?

Not.
There's such a small area of flare that interferes with your tire, it's not worth the sacrifice in looks, IMO.
Trim the flare where it rubs, and leave them on [emoji1360]

If you have wheel spacers I'd remove them. Or get wheels with a different backspacing. There's plenty of guys here with 35's & aren't hitting the fenders. Maybe a body lift?

You can completely gut the front flares with nothing but a jigsaw and sacrifice pretty much no strength.

I have since taken them all the way up to the very edge, and also trimmed past the bottom mount down to just before the spot it mounts to underneath the fender.

If you get rid of the flares just be prepared to destroy the paint on the lower sides of your truck. After running aftermarket wheels with "1.5 wider offset over stock for the last few years, I have done a ton of damage to my paint. The flares really do serve a purpose beyond looks. I would do the above mentioned, or go to a smaller tire

What about modifying bushwacker flares to fit my 4runner?? I love the bolt on fender look. These would allow me to trim the metal fender back and mount these a little bit higher.

I dont see why it wont work. Its how all Jeep Cherokee's do it.

No in the rear I would cut them where the door line is. And maybe do some fiberglass work...

Im probably just going to pull my flares and do the Duratek lining.
