Removing Catalytic Converters

I was sitting in my chair with random thoughts and ideas floating through my head.
There are stories of catalytic converters being stolen. They also become damaged, clogged, and wear out.
Where I live there is no inspections or smog check. I was thinking I could just remove them and store them away.
Would this be more of a change that the OEM computers can compensate for?
I'm not looking for increased performance or fuel mileage (though that would be a pleasant side effect). Just looking to not purchase replacements if I don't have to.

Just leave them on and worry about it if they get stolen.

We removed all 4 cats from mine due to packaging issues. We put the 02 sensors back in same sequence so zero issues with the ECU

And what did you do to trick the ECM that there's still catalytic converters installed? I highly doubt that the vehicle didn't notice that B1 & B2 AFRs read the same oxygen values and B1 & B2 Post Cat O2 sensors.

I have a piggy back ecu with my whipple supercharger (URD) so this was managed with a small change to the tune.

Props on living in a proper free state. But your truck will sound horribly loud if you let the exhaust rip straight from the headers.

I'm assuming this would involve replacing them with exhaust pipe rather than just leaving the headers bare. I'd like to know the answer as well, if anyone's done this - I've had one clog and replaced it due to the state I'm in, and it would be good to know down the road if you can remove a cat without unduly affecting the engine due to the lack of backpressure.

you can remove the second set easily. URD sells a y pipe that bolts in with o2 sensor bungs. no CEL, no issues, no sound change, better throttle response. First set delete as well? you might as well run headers, full exhaust and a tune

I guess to me it was obvious that the cats would be replaced with unrestricted tubing. Muffler would remain.
Just a mental exercise in being proactive.

Do it with the Y-pipe and save them and the existing pipe for the inevitable restoration.
