Removing Cleats - Trail Edition Roof Rails

Help..

I had the SR5 roof rails, and it was easy enough to disassemble the rails and take the cleats off.. but with the Trail Edition rail, you don't have that option.

I picked these rails up for cheap, and did a test fit on them today. They're off to the paint shop tonight, but I need to get these damn cleats off first.

They're on the outer sides of the rails. Ive tried just about everything. Anyone have any suggestions? Faded rails assembled for reference in pic:

Pry the ends off and they'll slide right out. You can even see the spot where the flat blade screwdriver goes in you pic.

Got it! Thanks! Didn't want to break anything. But, youre right.. can see the clip/gap where the end pops off.

Just unscrew the center eye on the cleats and you can lift them out of the rails.

have a '16 trail,...not worried bout rain for a few days...with the caps off and bolts still intact, safe to drive?

don't know if you can put the caps back on, drive safely, without rails?

worried about elements i guess, more so if the caps are off, can those bolts/plastic retainer come loose or disappear into my roof?

saw a video about how to fill it in with gooie stuff(later) and how to not lose the plastic retainer(later), just worried bout the time being if i just removed them for a day or so

(possibly painting rails till i figure out the roofs plan cause i landed the one of the lightweight trail editions without crossbars)

sorry for the hijacking, theres a bunch of threads concerning blacking out, deletion, adding crossbars, removing stock and adding rack, etc.... i didn't wanna add to the amount

Does anyone know how to put those cleats back on the roof rack? I can’t pop the cover off. There’s gotta be an easier way right?

If you unscrew the center eye/loop thing on the cleat they easily go on and off the rail with no problem. This loosens the foot that grabs the track on the rail, then you can just tighten it back down.

I see you have hooks that are in the side of the rails. Do you know if those are able to be ordered separately?
