Removing cross bars from roof rack

I looked at the crossbars on my 2006 Sport tonight to see how to remove them. The solution didn't jump right out at me. I'll never use them and they just add to the hassle of trying to wash the roof. Any tips?

If they are mounted like the other ones, you will need to get the end caps off first and slide them off through the ends. The other ones pop off. Your best bet would be to see a repair manual for an 06 or talk to a machanic.

Yes. I used same way as KoZ described for my 04 SE when I put up my Kayak gears. 06 can be different.

The roof rack is different on the new Sport, flat on the inside but tubular or rounded on the edge you're looking at. I notice that when you see one that has just come off the truck at the dealer, the rear endcaps are off. I guess this is so the bars can be put on. Looks like the idea will be to figure out how the endcaps come off. Kinda hoping it was going to be simpler.Thanks

I removed mine. I cannot describe it well enough with words. I will try to take a picture this weekend. If I do not, them pm me to remind me to do so.

Using a small screw driver with a piece of electrical tape on the blade, pop the two sides of the cover off at the base. Once both sides are loose then hinge it upwards. It is also attached at the top. Lift carefully straight up or you will break a plastic clip like I did.

Grease, those are nice pictures but looks like you are just describing how to get the endcaps aloose. Once you pop the endcaps, does the bar just slide out? Thanks

Anyone figured out how to do this on 06 Sport. They are different from the others. I'm wondering if the round holes near the endcaps play a role.

The dealer told me that unlike the other models, the Sport arrives with the bars already in place. I have seen the others as they come off the truck with the end caps flipped up and the bars not yet installed. I finally let the dealer do mine. As he said, if you break it, you have to buy new ones. If we break it we buy the new ones. Money well spent. Wasn't much but don't remember the exact charge.
