Removing Fan Wheel From Blower Motor?

This is my first post here. I've gleaned a lot of helpful information from existing threads in the past, but, this time around, I couldn't find a thread addressing my issue. Here's the situation:

I am in the process of replacing the A/C blower motor on my 1996 4Runner. The problem is that every parts store I've checked with only carries the motor without the fan wheel. My Haynes Manual indicates that you can re-use the old fan wheel, but provides no instruction for how to remove it. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to get the old fan wheel off without breaking it. It is a plastic wheel. I have removed the retainer clip, but I can't get the fan wheel to budge. I'm wondering if it may require a specialized tool. Any ideas?

I remember messing with mine and ending up knocking the motor through the plastic casing. Toyota sells the whole assembly, which is what I ended up buying.
