Removing Rear Plastic

Has anyone tried to remove the plastic attached to the rear door (on the inside)? on the passenger side there is a small hole that looks like you should start prying it off there. but i don't know for sure if it's just pop rivets holding it on and after a few pulls i decided to stop. Any help would be appreciated.

Are talking about 2nd row inside door panels or the rear liftgate panel?

sorry, rear tailgate panel. I've only owned pick-ups in my life so i don't know what to call it and tailgate sounds wrong to me. but yes, that.

The official Toyota name for it is the "Lift Gate"
There is a little indent in the top of that access panel . Stick a small flat blade screwdriver and pop it out. Reach 2 fingers from each hand in the cutout and just give a quick hard pull to release the plastic push clips that attach it,they are like all those round door panel clips that hold door panels on.Then push the panel up and back towards you as it rides on a channel at the top . The lights have connectors that have to be disconnected to completely remove the panel.
Hope that helps:)

Harper, thanks. the only thing that could help more is if you came over and did it for me. So the pop out piece you're referring to, is that kind of in the middle/lower portion of the panel, about the size of a credit card or index card? i remember popping something off similar to that on my "lift gate". thanks.
