Removing Running Boards and top railing HELP!

Hey guys,

I was wondering how to take off the running boards and headliners because I am going to coat them with a nice black and see how they turn out. If they dont turn out well then I will just buy aftermarket boards. Anyway, the running boards look fairly simple to take off just by ducking under them, although does anybody know how to take off the top railing?

Also when I say headliners I am referring to the liners that mount the ski racks. Please correct me if my terminology is off.

Where you have your ski/snowboard rack attached to are the "cross rails" for the roof rack (the entire piece on your roof). I haven't seen instructions posted on how to get the end caps off of a 2006+ Sport Edition, since it changed to the tubular style rack. Instructions for the square bar rack on the 2003-05, and 2006+ SR5 and Limited are posted. There are four clips and the caps need to pried properly to get them off without breaking the clips.

Headliner actually refers to the ceiling covering inside your 4Runner (the fabric) lining above.

:iagree: On your black rig it'd be easy to go too black. Josh220 has a beautiful ride and ended up with some black rims for a while. He came to the conclusion it was too black. He posted pics and he was right, too black is a real possibility.

I think your step rails and roof rack add nice contrast, great looking ride! :biggrin2:
