Removing shark fin?

Has anyone removed the shark fin on the roof? I no longer use mine and plan on getting an extension for my roof rack so I'll need to take that off and somehow plug it.

^^ What he said.. There's basically 1 rectangular hole and a little round hole that would need to be covered. There is a drawing I did somewhere in that thread. What exactly you planning on putting in there, an extension??

Well I just want to take it out and cover it. I'm getting a yakima loadwarrior extension, making my rack longer, so I have to move the rack back a little and I can't do that right now cause of the fin.

Is notching the rack an option?

I guess I could just cut through the bars, that might be my second option.

You could easily make something, and bolt it right in where the shark fin goes. A piece of round steel or aluminum, take a bolt, cut the head off, weld the bolt to that round piece, slide it in from above, take a washer or something and a nut and clamp it down. That's if you have these materials available of course. Obviously you'd want to paint it and apply some silicon to prevent leaks. Then you could always remove that and put the shark fin back in if you got rid of the racks.

A rearward extension? Wouldn't that make it where you couldn't lift the lift gate?
Are you thinking the fold out tents? they have some that fold off the side.

This was way back when I had my yakima loadwarrior with extension. It cleared the fin by a few cm's. I don't have the same rack anymore.

I was reading through the thread and didn't notice the dates.. i was thinking wtf? He went back to a yakima rack? lol
