removing splined coupler on transfer case?

Does anyone have a clever technique/method for removing the splined coupler from the transfer case without damaging it?

I just use a punch (I've used both a brass and hardened steel) and a hammer and tap it off...

Lil bit of heat should slide right off, split bearing puller.

I couldn't get my 3-jaw puller to grab the back without slipping off... :nono:

You see those Knipex Cobra's on the ground? You see the bluish discoloration from heat on the stock coupling? Yep. I used heat. Then grabbed the coupling with the Cobra's and beat the coupling about 1/4" out. That allows you to get the puller jaws in behind it.

I used a small chisel to get it started and a hammer and punch the rest of the way...wasn’t difficult...thinking I got lucky.

What's the procedure to re-install the coupler? Mine is off and I need to put it on. TIA!
