removing spoiler from '04 4Runner

Does anyone have any experience or insight into removing the spoiler on the '04 4Runner. I'm looking at a SR5 V8 4x4 but the only one I can find that has all the options that I want has a spoiler....and I don't want a spoiler. Can it be removed cleanly? I'm assuming that there will be some holes in the lift-gate that will have to be filled. I'd like to get the dealer to agree to do it as part of my purchase contract but don't want to get involved in a messy situation with altering the vehicle.

Thanks for anyone's input.

It will leave a couple of holes when you take it off and I doubt you will get the dealer to agree to patch/fill/or plug those under any type of warranty.

Correct my if I'm wrong, but don't 4Runners with factory installed spoiler only have the one center brake light that is located on the spoiler itself? Dealer and port installed spoilers have brake lights on the spoiler and the tailgate. So assuming all that is correct, removing a factory installed spoiler leaves you without a center brake light.

Not a legal expert or anything, but I'd imagine there are some insurance and legal issues there.

I'd try to find out if it's factory installed or otherwise before making your mind up on buying and removing the spoiler. If it's installed after it leaves the factory, the it's just really a matter of plugging the holes. But like momo said, doubt Toyota will cover that. Maybe a good body shop will.

but just maybe the holes that are left are the same holes used to fit the brake light assembly that comes on 4runners without the spoiler? if your spoiler is white i would gladly buy it from you.

No, the holes are on the side where the spoiler attaches to the truck.

Correct-a-mundo. I was wondering that myself awhile back so I glanced up behind the spoiler on my truck and all that's there is an indentation of where the 3rd brakelight is supposed to be on the spoiler-less tailgate. Not only would you have to worry about the holes where the spoiler used to be but also installing an extra brakelight on the tailgate.
