I have an 85 that the AC has never had a belt installed. I wouldn't use it if it was. How difficult is it to remove the system? Is it worth it? or just to much of a PITA? Will it be better to have out?

If it ain't working and you don't plan on fixing it, yank it! I did. Assuming you have the 22re it should be fairly easy to do. If you have been running without the belt, you won't see a difference in anything from before though.

More room in the engine bay, plus pulling the condensor from in front of the radiator, wouldn't that lead to a little better cooling?

Did you charge with r12, or did the kit have everything to convert to r134?

I pulled mine a while back. I don't know if I really gained anything though. I just never wanted to use the a/c and the compressor didn't work anyways. But in my mind, if you don't use it and it doesn't work... why have it installed?
It's like having a lifted rig with 35" tires but keeping the stock spare mounted under the 4runner because it doesn't hurt anything to keep it there.

Haha! I wasn't really even thinking of you when I wrote that. At least your spare was on the back of your runner which helped as some sort of a bumper. I was more or less referring to the little donuts that people keep under their truck or 4runner after lifting it and putting huge tires on it.

One key difference with that comparo, SVD--A/C is a luxury that is used by choice, but you may actually NEED a spare, and an undersized one is of no value. As to removing the system, other than space, there's nothing to gain if it wasn't hooked up anyway. Also, if you ever decide you'd like that luxury again down the road, it's a lot easier if you never pulled out the components.
