removing the crankpulley on a 5spd 3rd gen?

Hi,
I was wondering is it possible to remove the crank pulley on a 96 Toyota 4runner 5spd without having to jimmy up a rig to hold the crank while using a breaker bar to crack the bolt open?
Since my 4runner is 5spd, would it be possible to engage into 1st gear to lock the crank into place and removing it with a breaker bar?

would I need one of these?

What kind of waterpump would you guys suggest?

In gear should work if your p-brake is adjusted well and on tight. If you find yourself moving the vehicle try 2nd or 3rd gear.
