Removing The Rear Seat Bottoms In a 2014 TE

Hey guys,

Quick question...

I need to remove the rear seat bottoms on our 2014 TE.

I know there are just a few bolts holding them in place, but is there any nut, etc... that will fall off and be hard to get to when the bolts are removed?

Or is the nut just more of static threads?

IIRC there is no nut per say, the threads are in the floor panel, it may be thickened by a nut but I have had mine out plenty of times and no issuues. I found while camping in the truck it is best to remove them to give us a few extra inches of sleeping space and the floor boards are then also free for bag storage etc.

I think its only 2 bolts that hold each side on covered by plastic panels that can be snapped on/off.

I can confirm Nuxx. Rear seat bottoms are held in place by two bolts (14mm I believe) in the base of the hinge arm. The bolts thread into the floor of the truck, there is not a loose nut on the backside.

Correct - there are 4 captive nuts, 2 for each seat. We usually have our seat bottoms out, and only install them when we're going to carry rear passengers. The nuts are not welded to the bottom surface of the floor, i.e. they're not under the vehicle, but rather are inside of 4 stampings that support the seat bottoms in the interior. Be careful when tightening these bolts, since if the nuts get stripped it would be a real PITA to get in there and dummy something up. The manual calls for 27 ft. lbs., at least for 2012. The bolts don't do anything except secure the seat bottoms, so you won't e.g. hear the gas tank hit the garage floor when you remove the bolts.

Edit: I double-checked the AllData manual for the torque spec, and noted that it states: "The bolts must be tightened to the torque specification, as they are related to vehicle safety during a collision. "

Hi fellow LEAF owner,
I take my rear seats out often enough that I am considering replacing the bolts with wing nuts like some of the 3rd gen guys do for easy tool-less removal.

So noticing this thread; I decided to pull a second row seat out.

Screwdriver (to pop plastic covers off) and socket (to remove bolts); it took just under five minutes to remove the narrow seat bottom behind the driver and put it back on.

I suppose it might take five more to remove and reinstall the other one.

And it gives me 75 inches of length from tailgate to back of drivers seat (adjusted for me = 6'3" with very long legs....

FWIW...I removed the rear seat bottoms and backs. Everything except the seatbelts that retract into the side by the side windows. Weighed it all as I went, 75lbs. Enough to change the stock rake until I added recovery and camping gear.
