Removing TRD OR Badge

I removed my TRD Off Road badges from the C-Pillar tonight. They came off pretty easily with some 3M Auto Adhesive remover.

BUT

I was surprised to find that the badges are installed and then another layer of clear coat is applied. So, there is some ghosting of the badges on the c-pillar. It is relatively minor and I can only see it when the light catches the edges. It doesn't really bother me much since I didn't like the TRD Off Road badge and looks much better clean.

This is just a clarification on what to expect when you remove the badges. I tried to take a picture of the ghosting, but it is faint enough that I can't get it with my phone.

Are you sure its not just wax? when I de-badged my SR5, There was some ghosting until I wiped the area clean with rubbing alcohol.

Same here. Had some ghosting then sprayed some Prep-All on it and wiped it clean. I think it was adhesive residue or wax.... not clear coat.

Yeah, it's definitely in the clear coat. I even hit it with some finishing compound polish before I waxed the area. It's really strange that they would apply the stickers that way.

I did wipe it down with rubbing alcohol, the faint outline of the letters is still there. I can also confirm there is overspray on the badges I removed.

I would be much more concerned with the black marker! Hope that comes out!

Has anyone else tried this? I just picked up a '17 and would like to get rid of these hideous emblems. Not a fan of the black accents on the trail rims as well. They ruined what was one of the better looking OEM rims around in my opinion.

I pulled all the TRD OR emblems and pinstripes off today. It was nice and hot so they came off easy. Took some braided fishing line (dental floss works too) and pulled it behind the emblems to cut them off. Then GooGone and a paper towel to get rid of the remaining residue. Pinstripes came off with a quick scratch of a fingernail and a slow pull. Plan on blacking out the front and rear toyota emblems soon. Congrats on the purchase btw picked up mine the other day and love it!

Hmm. In Canada the TRD Off Road model actually doesn't get the C-Pillar emblems (nor the specific floor mats). I was thinking of buying some to put on just to stand out a bit from the rest here, ha!

If i remove my badges to plastidip black, how easy would reinstalling them be? 3M adhesive tape? Any hope of heating up the residue on the back side of them to reapply?

In a previous life I worked in a stealership body shop... it would make you sick how many new cars get painted and still be sold new. Shipping damage, sales lot door dings, even test drive wrecks.

My guess is that's what happened to yours, and to save a buck they just left the emblem on when shooting clear.

I watched this guy on you tube before i removed my pillar badges, he has at least two videos on removal and claims that if you have ghosting it is because there is adhesive still on the paint even if you can't feel it.
I used his method almost to a T and have no ghosting so I think you should be able to polish that out. Here is a link to the video i followed.

The only thing i did different was use another brand of polish. (meguiars)
