Removing vent shades

When I got in my accident last winter, I busted one of my vent shades. I took one off and had such a hard time getting the adhesvive off, I said screw it. I finally took the other vent shades off today but I am having a REALLY hard time getting that stupid black crap off.

I bought some Goo Gone and that barely does it. Is there anything else I can use to get this stuff off? I don't want to drive around with it looking like this until I get new ones..lol

3M makes an adhesive remover that will take it off but it must be done with care or it dulls the paint a little.

Even tho' it can dull the paint and leave possible rub marks it can be restored with a olittle polish and wax.

with such stubborn stuff (as we dont have access to the good stuff here) we use liquid brasso mixed with car polish or some petrol. followed by a good layed or wax/polish.
