He's right, but if you dont want to plunk out for the factory manual, Haynes is pretty good. I have both, and on a lot of stuff, they are identical.

Negative,
there is not an online version, unless you read Russian.
You can order a new one for $130 from a Toyota center here in Cali.

Or, if your lucky, you can find one on ebay.

careful with the eBay ones. I bought one and it turned out to be a CD.

I found one on one of the 4runner-related bboards and downloaded it, I think it was 4crawler.org.

FWIW, you don't need the specific year of manual, but one that covers the same generation. In my case, the download for "1988 4Runner" covered mine.

(I'm still shopping around for a printed copy, also.)

1979-1985 Toyota Pickup and 4-Runner Gasoline FSM 22R

You will notice in the link posted :

http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html

That there is no coverage for the years '86-'89.

And if you follow the yotatech link:

http://www.yotatech.com/f128/toyota...l-years-156128/

Look closely at the 1987 FSM link... you will notice the letters RUS preceding part 1 and part 2. The entire thing is in Russian. I downloaded it to verify.

Also, on ebay, be sure to verify with the seller that you are buying a 'print' copy and ask for a photo of the actual item. I purchased mine on ebay and it has been a wonderful investment.

Not only did they mis-represent the sale, but they deleted the listing after receiving my payment, which blocks me from returning negative feedback.

To top it off, it's the exact same PDF as is in my post right above this one! :bash:

That totally sucks! I am sorry to hear that.

The main reason I advocate 'non-digital' versions of the FSM is that I need to have that info right there in the garage, and I don't want grease all over the laptop!
