Repeated P2111 Code

Three times now my 2012 Limited has gone into "Limp Mode" due to P2111.
Twice the dealer cleaned the throttle body.
Now they are saying it needs a new throttle body and . . . if that doesn't resolve the problem, it may need a new ECM.
This is the dealer!! Anybody can throw new parts on a car, I expect more certainty in diag.
Anyhow, has anyone here had this problem and found a resolution?
Btw, the VIN on mine is after the dreaded 5056465.

Thanks in advance!!

5th Gen Throttle Body Issues -P2111

New to the forum and 4Runner family.

Have a 2016 4Runner With 55k miles. P2111 code keeps coming up. In the past week it has popped twice. I have noticed recently both times this has happened the the weather was over 91 degrees. What’s weird is I drove across county recently and the code never occurred (it never was hotter than 75 degrees).

When this first happened last month took it to Toyota they said I need a new Throttle Body but it might not fix the problem. Took it to another dealership and they opened it up and said your throttle body is clean and does not need to be replaced.

I’m in Denver now and it’s 96 degrees. CEL and code popped again throwing the car in Limp mode and not being able to drive.

Anyone have an idea what I can do from here. I feel like it could be the computer or sensory related to throttle body?

If it were me I would clean my throttle body and make sure that the valve open and closes properly. Here is a link that might help.

Did you every get this resolved? I have the same issue on my 2016.

Cleaned the throttle body myself. Was fine for a few miles then the code popped again. Disconnected the battery for an hr still having issues.

You think it’s the ECU or a sensor?

There is'a tsb for p2111 for fj cruisers and 2010 4runers with 1gre fe motors. I was hoping cleaning the throttle body would have solved the issue. If the electrical wires and connectors are good the next component to test would be the ecm. How many miles'on your truck it should be covered under the 3 year 36k mile warranty. if you are over you can make a claim with Toyota and see what they say. if you can buy the extended power train warranty that might work.
I looked at the fsm and this is'what it said
p2111 throttle actuator control system stuck open causes
Throttle actuator, Throttle body with motor assembly, Throttle valve Wire harness or connector , ecm.
Hope'it all works out for you. Good luck.

You can use the following tsb as leverage for your issue.
