replace speakers in 08...need amp?

I'm not a big stereo guy...but I did notice that this stock stereo sucks...compared to my IS300.

I was doing some research and I wanted to replace the stock 6x9, 6.5 and tweeters. Now...I'm not looking for major bass or competetion grade stuff. I want my stereo to sound good! Stock seems to sound kinda bassy...a bit muddy.

Now...if I get the speakers, will this clear up the sound? Or will I need to install an amp to power the speakers? I hate the stock sound....But I'm not looking to spend too much money. Just something that will get it nice. I found a deal for pioneer TS-A6971R for a brand new pair. Maybe that and some matching 6.5's and some tweeters?

I'm not too knowledgable about speakers or what not..so any help in the right direction would be great.

Again...I just want the sound to brighten up. You guys know how horrible the stock system is. Oh..I have an 08 urban runner. I believe hte system is the same as the SR5.

From my understanding there is an amp which I believe is plug and play that works with non JBL systems. Atleast that is what I thought someone mentioned here . The web site is www.oemvalue.com
maybe that may have some answers.
 
Honestly the stock system for a 30k+ vehicle is an absolute joke. Your best bang for the buck would be to replace the head unit first, then later do your speakers. The factory head unit is very low in wattage output so new speakers really wont make much of a difference.
 
unfortunatly I didn't find the amp......and I don't want to change the HU because it has my navigation on it. Can I run an amp to power speakers? Would that be the better bet? Like a 100x4?
 
You can still run an amp with a factory HU. I still wouldn't buy new speakers until you have money for speakers and an amp.
 
ok...how about running a lets say 250w amp with the stock hu and stock speakers? That should sound a bit better? Sorry if I sound dumb...I'm not a big time audio guy...so I may think this will work.:D
 
I'm not really sure how much RMS stock speakers can take to be honest.

I do know that new speakers amped would sound better than the factory speakers amped.

Assuming that 250 RMS is for all four speakers that would be over 50 RMS per side. I'm not sure what the rating is on the factory speakers.
 
cool. I'm picking up an older ppi amp today that is i think 200w. The 6x9's are Pioneer TS-A6971R. Will 200 be enough to power that? But I was going to get a set of pioneers to match the 6x9 for the back door speakers too. Will this work?
 
Is the amp a two channel or four channel?

Those speakers are rated at 40 RMS. If the amp is a two channel and you send each speaker 125 RMS you could run into problems.

seems like its only running 200 watts. Can I run this to the front 6x9 and the stock hu for the rears with upgraded speakers?
 
Yeah I think you could do that. You would need to run them in series or in parallel depending on what impedance they are.
 
wow...I definitly need to know what you're talking about. I have no idea what that means. Back about 10 years ago....I was the guy that just hooked up the amp...plug wires in with speakers. I didn't know how much what each speaker can hold. I just plug and if it sounds good...I left it alone.
 
Speakers for door are normally dual 4 ohm or single 4 ohm.

Since your not going to be using that amp to run four speakers you should not have to worry about wiring any more.
 
ok. Again..sorry for my lack of knowledge. I was just never a big audio guy. But the stock system...was just not cutting it. Thank you for the much appreciated info. Makes me feel a bit better.
