Replaced my Projector lens along with a hint of TRD.

I installed the HID system from Retrofit Source last week. With mine being an 08 I already had the projector lamp. I had the LMZ LED's in it prior and while I liked the nice clean white light it lacked the ability to throw the light like I wanted. LED lamps are crippled inside of a projector lamp assembly simply by the design and function of a projector.

A good friend of mine, Tomas Chinchilla is friends with the owner of TRS. He hooked me up with the HID system and showed me the difference between the factory lens and his lens. It was very easy to see the clarity and how much more focused the light is. He also showed me how they can stencil/etch a logo onto it. While he had some pretty neat logo's as examples it was the TRD logo that caught my eye. I said what the hell, I'll swap mine out and have him put the logo on them.

It is very subtle and I like that. It does not project the logo on a wall for example. Thank goodness.

Can you tell us some more about this "new" lens you installed in your projectors? I've seen the clear lens that TRS sells...is this the lens you installed? Do you have any before and after pictures?

Yes, I installed the clear lens. Just by looking at the 2 different styles your naked eye can see the difference. Much more clarity.

I just did the lens swap yesterday afternoon. I will take some shots this evening.

it looks like black series lens with custon etch logo, looks good, but i would of swap out the whole projector tho, true hid projectors with a etch lens means alot more custom to me.

Has anyone else done the swap? Im really interested in how much of a difference it makes in the stock projectors. Right now i have tyc headlamps in my 4R so i think i could be a good candidate for this . If anyone has more info please post a reply. Thanks..

honestly, its a waste to do this with halogen projectors, only worth it to use on true hid projectors.

The lenses are inexpensive. Having done several retrofits I know how hard it is to properly fit and aim the protectors and not everyone wants to commit to that much time and expense (at least $300 for a quality retrofit kit from TRS).

With just an HID harness and bulb kit your looking at $150 without any real modifications required other than the squirrel finder mod. Upgrading the lenses makes it better for $40. Does this ultimately beat out a true retrofit? No. But it is a lot simpler to do and is still a huge improvement over the stock halogen setup the 4th gen comes with.

Yeah i don't really want to spent so much on a retrofit at this point. I already have the HID kit with a couple sets of bulbs so id rather go with the stock projectors(actually they're TYC headlamps) at least for now till my bulbs burn out. I would like some better projection though, and was thinking lenses could be a good way to go as far as bang for your buck. I was thinking about painting my housings also, so this could give me a good reason to do it.

I did the full blown HID with the D2S bulbs. The difference between stock and this setup is beyond comparison. I used the Osram D2S Xenerac.
