Replacement Driver's Seat

My rewelded driver's seat 'popped' as I adjusted my fat ass just moments ago. The outboard side is definitely broken again.

What are my replacement options?

Thx,
Jon

Uh, new seat?

I'm too lazy to go re-read your other thread, which part "popped"?

KidV,
The seatback frame is tubular and welded to a plate, which in turn bolts to the mechanism just above the pivot point. On mine, both sides of the tube had separated from the plates. My friend rewelded them, but at least one side has already failed again.

I could really use some advice on getting a replacement seat. Anyone?

Thx,
jon

Sounds like weak (poor penetration welds). If steel is welded properly the bond should be stronger than the actual metal...maybe take it to another welder, or find a wrecked runner being parted out.

Any toyota 4x4 driver seat would be a good replacement, i dont really understand but you would get the rails and all im guessing?

i saw a craiglist add for toyota seats from an 88? i think? i forget what he wanted. let me find the link.

edit:
adds gone, but i thought you were in tucson for a second anyway... my bad.

Not an authority to know which parts, components, etc. are interchangeable; having said that, might want to compare cost of having reliable weld shop make repair to the cost of a replacement from a local salvage yard. I recently had a need to salvage shop for 90 T4r 4x4 and was surprize to find the local salvage yards had several to pick from. Fortunately, there's a wrecking corp., Pic n Pull' who own several salvage yards throughout this state and offer a search engine that provides a listing of the location, model, and year(s) of a particular vehicle. Anyhow, food for thought?

Nice set of seats, might want to compare price of salvaging replacement seat thru wrecking yard, or Craig's list, if intested and within budget, might set a max bid and stick with it. I have never needed to price seats; with the $178 cost for shipping, and closing bid, it will be interesting what the final cost comes to.

Very true. In the long run it would probably be cheaper to visit some of the local salvage yards. The 4Runner seats are a piece of cake to remove. And even if the fabric isn't in good shape even the cost of having them recovered would probably be less costly than the shipping charges involved.

Finally getting around to fixing the seat. It's at a local upholsterer who also does welding repairs.

FYI, the passenger seat does not bolt in to the drivers location. ;-(
I needed to transport the seat to the upholsterer, so I removed both seats, put the driver's in the rear, and bolted the two front bolts in place with the passenger seat in the driver's position. The rear two bolts don't work.

Burk's Upholstery, Murfreesboro TN (Chad Burk)

Chad took care of me and my driver's seat is better than ever. $75.
