Replacement for Stock Wheels

My current stock wheels have areas of corrosion bubbling up, not a lot, but when I get new rubber, probably A/T's, think it would be good to replace the wheels, also.

Just got off the phone with a Discount Tire guy who quoted some names and prices, all just north of a hundred a copy, which is what I expected. Looking for insight, considerations on suitable replacement wheels. Any input appreciated...

MK6 level8 are common and pretty affordable. You can get them with a zero or -10 offset too which is like running stock with spacers. They also have multiple color choices.

Ideally, I'd be looking for wheels that don't readily deteriorate in appearance with the four seasons, and use of salt in the winter.

I replaced my 06' SE wheels

with take off 5th gen SR5 wheels with less backspace (1"). ended up selling the 06' wheels for $25 less than i paid for the 5th gen wheels. :becky:

I'm running FJ wheels.

FJ 17" wheels and 5th gen wheels are both a direct fit and have a 15mm offset (vs 30mm stock) This pushes the wheels out about 0.6" or so for a slightly more aggressive look.

I would personally get the takeoffs (unless you have a wheel you really like) Less anxiety as you are worrying about $200-$500 wheels instead of $800+

Check craigslist or ebay for cheap wheels =)

The other option is sanding and repainting your current wheels. Not super difficult if there are no tires on =)

My original rims were doing the same thing, bubbling up & corroding. I bought some 2013 T4R TE rims from a guy on Craigslist for $330. Trail Edition rims are 7.5" wide vs the 7" wide SR5 rims.

Showing my ignorance here, but if I plan to run 265/70 17's would the the extra 1/2 in width be a problem with fit?

Around here (Colorado front range), there a TON of Toyota wheels on Craigslist. If you can afford to look for a week or two, I would expect you could pick up a clean set for about $250.

I have level 8 rims on mine right now, I actually have 2 sets. Are there other rims I like more, ya there are but not for an extra 400 for a set. I have the tracker by level 8 which I think look good and have gotten quite a few compliments on them, and the price is good. Not trying to sell you anything but I do have the level 8's with 265/70r17 dynapros that I don't need, but looks like you're from michigan.

Ya no problem, and yes I'm from Minnesota, if you're ever down there and want some wheels just let me know haha
