Thanks for the write up. I was hoping to do this without dropping the tank. Oh Well.
I'll do it without dropping the tank on mine, I'll just cut an opening, and make a removable access panel once I do it. After that, fuel pump will be easily accessible if it ever fails on a road trip lets say.
You just have to be careful at not cutting deep (or you'll hit a line), preferably using small metal snips, or a routing tool with which you can adjust depth. And sealing everything well at the end.
