replacement oil filters?

I recently had my 04 4runner serviced and noticed a couple of disturbing things.

I was charged for rotating tires and they were not rotated. Now my concern is that the oil and filter were not replaced as well.

Does Toyota service use a black Toyota oil filter as a replacement or do they use an orange Fram filter or other brand?

Toyota dealers use Toyota replacement parts. The oil filter should be black and it should say Toyota on it.

It would be hard to tell if they replaced the filter, but I would look at your dip stick. The new oil should be almost clear with a little amber color. Any oil over 3,000 miles on it should look dark brown to a light black color. If the oil is new it should be hard to see where the oil is on the dip stick.

Did you ask the dealer to correct the problem? What was their reaction? I'd ask them to do the complete service over, again. Let us know what happened.

My oil filetrs are normally dirty by the time it goes in, so it is easy to check if the filter is clean.

I would recommend to just use a long screwdriver and scratch the old one in the future (assuming you have an V8, V6 is no issue to mark as it is on top).

They better use the black Toyota one if not, have them redo the service and report the dealer to Toyota.

That is what I always do plus I always check the oil before I drive off. I also mark the tires and on my last rotation I had them redo the rotation since they did a side to side versus a front to rear Since I can't watch them do the work I have to take measures that make sure the job is done correctly. I know I have way too much time on my hands.
