Backstory (feel free to skip):
I recently purchased a 4runner and unfortunately before I got around to changing all the fluids I seem to have a whining/bad rear diff due to low/possibly no rear fluid. What the previous owner failed to mention was the leak in the rear diff (caused by rust pinholes). If only I had known I could have saved the gears and just fixed the rust temporarily until I found a replacement housing. The diff was fairly dry which leads me to believe it was ran without oil for a while.
Anyway, I am looking around for used REAR axle housings/diffs and it seems as though many junkyards ask for wheel size 15" or 16". From doing some searching, it seems as though the wheel size only makes a difference on the front wheels, due to larger brakes on T4Rs with 16" wheels. However, before I purchase an assembly, I'd like to know if they are indeed the same in the Rear or if they are compatible? If the drum sizes are different are,they swapable?
