Replacement Speakers for 2000 4Runner

I own a 2000 Limited 4wd 4Runner. I currently have an Alpine 9852 Deck. I want to replace all 4 factory speakers with something better.

What do you recommend??

Another option Im considering is getting an AMP. Should I get an AMP to power the speakers OR get an AMP and a sub?

I would say DEFINATELY get an amp. you won't beleive how big of a difference it makes powering your speakers with an amp instead of your deck. are you planning on getting a sub too? I put in a 10" diamond audio sub in the Q logic 4runner box and siliconed it in so it takes up no cargo space. I put the sub amp under the drivers seat. I then put 6.5" Focal coaxials in the front doors and put the amp to power them where the jack goes under the back seat. (I put the jack in a bag, along with booster cables and tow rope in the back) and i have an amazing system that doesn't take up any cargo space.
If you want to replace the speakers, i would just replace the front ones and use the extra money towards an amp. the rear speakers don't really help with sound quality...they are just a filler.

Nice rides both of you... I too am thinking about upgrading the speakers and putting a in a sub/amp when money allows for it, are you happy with your setup or would you do anything differently?

i'm very happy with my setup. the Q logic box isn't the best but its great cuz i can still load up the cargo area. also, i don't have amps on the back of the seats so i can still put them down. that was a big thing for me. if i was to change anything...i would maybe get components instead of coaxials. but coaxials are so much easier to install without having to worry about where your gonna put the crossovers. i can't complain tho...these focals sound outstanding.

Do it step by step..
I personally suggest getting a 4CH amplifier, component speakers in the fronts, and coaxils in the rear to start.

What that is really gonna do, is give you A+ sound quality.

Problem you are going to run into is that the CDA-9852 only has 1 pre-out, and its for a subwoofer output.

You should either look into getting the CDA-9856 (which has FRONT, REAR, and SW outputs), or pick up a 4 CHANNEL line output converter, which will give you those outputs, but dont sound as good IMHO.

Then after you do that, pick up a subwoofer setup, since in the meantime, the mid-bass from the component speakers, will be alright....

I would scape all that standard crap.....
This what I did....

1. Remove the both front seats...
Installed a 4x50 amp for the corners and sub amp under Driver's seat. Install a Pioneer 12pak CD player under the passenger seat.
2. Replaced the head unit with Pioneer HU & DSP Unit
3. Replaced the front door speakers
4. Replaced the rear door speakers
5. Made SUB box to match incline of rear seat, thus minimized required space, with 12" sub speaker
6. Replaced all speaker wires and power cables....all of them.

Nothing is visible....all custom...even the sub box has a black towel laying over it...thus not visible from outside.

Would replacing the stock tweeters in the front doors make a difference in sound quality. Seems like you can pick up a pair for $25. Worth it?

do a matching tweeter / woofer combo... just doing the tweeter make make the sound funny, having an aftermarket, more efficient tweeter with a stock woofer.

If you mean woofer as in front door speakers, I do have aftermarket speakers. I have an ok pair of Rockford Fosgate speakers. They might need pulling soon, any recomendation??

They are RF Punch FRC 4306 100watts. I'm running an Alpine 9852 head unit with an amp and a JL 12' sub.

Would upgrading my head unit make a diff in sound quality too?

Your best bet would be to get a good set of component speakers.

there are also a HUGE variety of companies selling component 6.5" sets.

I would also highly reccomend a 4 Channel amplifier to power the component set. Your sound will be greatly improved, and the mid-bass will be helped out too..it also helps make it much louder, while still being clean.

The radio you have isnt a bad radio, however, those alpines only have a 2.2 (iirc) volt pre-out. If you are looking for a better radio, find something with a 4v or higher pre-out, and that will make the signal from the head unit, to the ams cleaner.
