replacing 98 4 runner front diff .what fits ?

i have a 98 4 runner , 4 cylinder auto , with vacuum controlled actuator .
4:56 gear ratio , 16 inch wheels .
last week was driving on snow covered pavement ,in 2WD , the front wheels locked up tight . after towing the truck home and tearing into it , i have found the front axle turns very dry and has hard points like a gear jamming up .
can anyone help with what will interchange ? what years will fit ? will any tacoma's have a compatible front diff ?

Hard to believe that happened in 2wd. You sure it's not just a cv?

But, to answer your question, any diff from a 3rd gen Runner or a 1st gen taco will work.
