Replacing BFG AT KO with what?

I am an old regular here... feels good to be back even though I'm asking for help and not necessarily adding value... yet. :biggrin2:

TIRE HELP NEEDED: I REALLY need some advice from all you experts. I'm buying a new set up tires tomorrow because I've got a huge construction nail in one of them and the inside edge is looking pretty worn. I've been running the BFG AT T/A KO 265/70 R17 and have been pretty happy with them; however, I don't really go off pavement as much as I had hoped to, and without 4WD or time I don't plan to in the future. Got two snow trips planned for this year though and would love some good rain performance. Bought my last set at Costco and am happy with them; however, our local BigOTires is running a buy2 get2 special tomorrow so I am considering the Nitto Crosstek because it would come to $604 (normally $967) for 4 including the required purchase of an alignment and premium installation package. I am open to any suggestions on any tires though. I've done a little research on T4R.org and it sounds like the Michellin LTX (~$890 at Costco installed with $75off) is a good choice too. What about Goodyear Silent Armors? Leaning away from BFG AT KO again because of noise, intended use, and cost. Please help me decide. Thanks in advance.

DIFFERENT SIZE SPARE: I've got the original Dunlop 265/65 R17 spare on there so wish me luck making it to the tire shop... I read Thai's warning about that... so we'll see what happens.

Consumer Reports is out with a huge tire edition which I'd be all over if I were in the market for tires. For some odd reason, it gets ignored or even dissed (as if message board anecdotes are better than measurements made by engineers with expensive equipment). Weird. Anyway, just an fyi if you care.

When I get my tires and lift I'm going to get the brand new designed bf goodrich rugged terrains. Look sweet and more of a road tire, and lighter.

Thank for the input guys! I'll be making my decision and purchase in a few short hours today. Gonna try to get consumer reports this morning but I have to say that as an engineer that has used lots of "expensive test equipment" in nuclear & aerospace, there are still many instances where I'd rather trust T4R.org consensus based on field data observed.

The BFG Rugged Terrain are some of the worst tires you can get - I'd look elsewhere. You can't go wrong with the LTXs and the GYSA are popular on here as well.

How many miles did you get out of the KO's......and, is that sig really necessary? Jesus.

Why are the rugged terrain the worst you can get? They r brand new design so far the reviews are great on tire rack, etc.
 
I really liked the Michelin LTX's that I had. Very quite and you'll get a lot of life out of them.

The Goodyear SilentArmor wouldn't be a bad choice either.
 
I like my ATMs, but if I were in your shoes I would heavily consider Bridgestone Revo 2s. Tons of info here in them, very well liked. A cheaper alternative is the Firestone Destination AT, goods street manners and not bad in the snow.
 
For what it is worth, the top ranking 5 All-Season (similar story in All-Terrain category) from CR looks like they are sponsored by Michelin:

On our walk this morning Pep Boys happened to be next to Barnes&Noble (looking at CR) so I stopped in and the guy was worthless.

My current thoughts are that $600 including alignment for the Nitto Crosstek seems like a steal and I'd take that gamble, but since the wife is driving the kids in it I'm thinking I'll splurge for the Michelin LTS M/S2... and stick with my trusty Costco. Who knows maybe I'll get some credit for what is left on my BFG AT KO's. Not leaving quite yet, so feel free to tell me if this is a crazy plan. Also, anybody know if I should get 65s or 70s? BTW, the Revos are tempting too and I remember them as a top contender when I bought the BFG AT KO. TOO MANY CHOICES!!
 
Probably not enough tread left to sell them; the ID surfaces are worn quite a bit. I don't remember what mileage I was at when I got them, but I'll report how long they lasted when I ask Costco. Just called them and they don't stock the Michelin LTX MS2 so I may have to have them fix my construction nail problem first.
 
BFG AT KO TREAD LIFE: Mine lasted 58,000!!! You should have seen them at 48k before I got in an accident... they looked pretty amazing. I don't think the body shop did an alignment, and that might have added to their quick decline.

Michelin LTX M/S2: I called Michelin and they verified that the M/S2 would perform better in the snow than that A/T2. My M/S2 set arrives at Costco today. First stop after Costco is to get an alignment. Thank you for everyone's help with the decision.
