Good evening. I have a 2005 Limited 4wd and the light behind the 4wd knob burned out. Any documentation on how to replace it?

Thank you.

Found some info on this link, but do you really have to take all of this out just to replace the 4wd knob light? If that's the case I'd be replacing all the other lights at the same time because this looks like a pain just to replace one light.

Anyone else done this?

It's not exact directions, but looks like it's the same all the way up to nav removal?

Ya you have to get the large center silver section out to get behind the knob. To do that, the console sections, under steering wheel piece, and AC control have to come out.

pop out the hvac and then you can pop out hte 4x4 knob from behind, swap bulbs and your good.

ok i've got the bulb and i know how to take out the hvac controls (just replaced a bunch of bulbs in there). i'm just wondering how the 4x4 knob pops out from behind. i am paranoid i might break something. has anybody done this before? i didn't even know there was a bulb behind the switch. this is probably the most unnecessary thing to fix ever but here i am anyway lol.

It’s easy. There are a couple of tabs on the 4x4 switch assy. Just squeeze one or two of them and it should pop loose.

I’m not back home till Sunday and I have a spare switch and trim panel and I can take a couple of pics for you if it will help.

I just had my dash apart to replace this and some other bulbs.
I cannot imagine trying to get the 4x4 switch out as described. I mean, I'm sure it can be done because others have done it -- but it's not really that hard to pull that whole panel off. I think it's 3 bolts. One 10mm on the "under the steering wheel panel" and 2 10mm's under the radio, and it just pulls out.

Here is a pic of the backside of the panel that houses the 4x4 switch. At the 1 o'clock and 11 o'clock position and again down at the bottom 6 o'clock position are the tabs. Just push the tabs in a little and it will start to pop out.

Pic attached.
