Replacing Interior Driver's Door Handle?

Specifically the chrome plastic door release.

Is this a separate part/assembly that can be ordered from Toyota? or does the entire door panel need to be replaced?

On some moguls I raked my watch across it and I'm hoping I can replace it without needing to do a 700 dollar panel swap.

I'm curious of this as well, mine is scratch bad from my wedding ring! I've looked at all the diagrams online but I can't ever find the part for the handle/lever.

IIRC the interior handle is part of the entire interior panel assembly and can't be replaced separately. On my previous 4Runner I did something similar and wasn't able to get it replaced.

Chalk it up to Toyota not making parts replacements easy. I accidentally chipped the red indicator on the HVAC knobs and found out that Toyota doesn't sell the knobs separately and wants $600 for the entire HVAC control unit ;)

You must have Ape arms, my hands/wrist come no where near the door handle unless I am intentionally reaching for it.

"On some moguls I raked my watch across it" look out resident BA here

Based on an online diagram it does look like you have to order the entire panel :( If you must see your white Oakley reflection in your door handle maybe see if someone will swap with you + some cash. Or can you trade a rear interior handle for the drivers so you don't have to look at it.

Cool watch, man.

Parts diagrams online make it look like one big ol' $540 assembly.

Yep. The first time I took my truck in for service I immediately noticed that the driver's handle was all jacked up. I still can not even imagine what they did. Just scratched to heck. I walked right back in and told them. They replaced it but they had to do the entire door panel. I was shocked. But that is the case.

I will likely just wrap it or wait and eventually replace the panel. Stupid design not to make it modular and I don't have ape hands but my arm slipped and dragged across the handle while we were doing the Mojave road.

Oh, its a modular piece, Toyota just doesn't seem to sell it separately. Its listed, but its not sold!

FRONT DOOR for 2012 Toyota 4Runner

In the image, the part you're looking for is #6, but as you can see, it is not listed in the parts you can purchase. It is part of 67620-35D30, and if you google that, you can see images with the handle in place of the door panel.

I suspect in a few years, that handle will become available, either from toyota or aftermarket suppliers. For now? Yeah, that's basically an 800+ dollar door handle! :wtf:

Hey Lawn Dart!

Just realized you're in Portland!!! Is it gouged, or just a light scratch where the chrome came off?

I've got an old friend that does water transfer graphics in Beaverton, you might wanna give his shop a call and see if he's able to maybe sand the scratch down, bodyfill it, then re-chrome it using that water transfer process.

Call Eric @ Highline Customs. You'll probably have a hard time getting him, as he's always goin' a thousand miles a minute, but Bobby will probably be the one to answer the phone, just talk to him about water transfer stuff.

There has got to be a 4Runner in a salvage yard you could get the panel from - then swap out the part you need.
