I've been troubleshooting a rough idle, bad gas mileage issue for months now and I think I can finally say it's due to an exhaust leak....
On cold startup, I notice a really pronounced rattle in the exhaust and ticking. When it's warm, it's less pronounced but you can hear it when under the truck. Also getting the "put put put" from the exhaust...
Valve clearances are all within spec... replaced a laundry list of stuff [tested the cat, it's good]...still have a rough idle, slight miss feel...no codes.
This tick is definitely coming from the passenger side. Tried the paper trick to try and find out where it's at...but still can't tell.
It's definitely passenger side, so either where the crossover pipe joins the passenger side manifold... or the manifold gasket itself. I don't see any visible cracks at the moment...
Anyway, I'm going to pull the manifold and disconnect the Y-pipe to check things out...make sure there are no cracks. Replace the gaskets and hope for the best...
Anyone have a write-up they can point me to? Looks like the PIA factor is going to be high on this one...any tips or write-ups are appreciated. 3.4l...
