Replacing OEM Trailer Connector

I had my trailer connector tested and found that the parking lights work, but the brake lights and turn signals do not. I'm assuming the 6 long New England winters did my connector in. I am going to replace the connector.

I have a couple questions:

-Does it matter which trailer connector I replace it with? I ask this because when I took off the OEM connector, it has pins that plugged into the OEM connector. The connectors that I see at local stores, don't have these pin holes. They simply require you to screw the bare wires into the unit.

-I look at wiring diagrams for trailer connectors and they don't match how my OEM was wired. The yellow wire was in the middle connection for OEM, but the diagrams I see, show it on the outside and the blue wire goes in the middle. Wires coming out of the 4Runner are: white, red, green, black, brown, blue and yellow.

Anybody who has replaced their trailer connector, please chime in. Thanks a lot.

Use a test light to identify what wires represent what circuits if you have doubts, wire them according to the new connectors diagram or buy a factory replacement.

I had the same thing happen to me this year. The pin for my trailer brakes corroded completely away this winter. I plan to fill the plug with dielectric grease next winter. Anyway, the guy at the trailer dealership called toyota to see if they had any of these in stock. they didn't, and he told us that they cost $400.00. the mechanic at the trailer place just wired in a $10.00 plug for me. I'd love to have the OEM version, but I haven't been able to find one online. I've checked a few toyota parts sites, but no luck. If anyone has any suggestions as to where to look, I'd appreciate the tip.
