Replacing Rear Diff

I've been searching through other posts for a while trying to troubleshoot the load noise coming from the rear of my 07 Sport 2wd. Took it in and diagnosed as a bad bearing on the passenger side rear. Had both in the rear replaced, and they found significant rust and pitting due to water (they showed me the bad bearings). After they completed the job the noise is still there. It's not as loud, but there is still noise. They say its a bad pinion and bearing also due to the water. The put the car in drive on the lift and I put my hand on the case. I could feel significant vibrations as it spun. I also think the gears are bad.

What should I expect to spend on a third member with elocker? Am I better off buying salvaged and popping that in? If so, where's the best place to look?

I don't have a ton of experience in this area, so not 100% sure what I'm looking for. Car has 123,000 miles on it. Its in immaculate condition with this being the only major issue I've run into.

Probably around $500 to $600 for an elocker 3rd from a salvage yard. A new one would be thousands. Check local salvage yards or online on ebay, craigslist, or there are some websites that list what junkyards around the country have.

Thanks. I've searched around a bit and have not found anything used. I'm going to get a few quotes to have it rebuilt. I plan on driving her forever, so I figure its worth the repair.

I'd call east coast, they probably have some stock geared thirds that were turned in for cores ready to ship.

If your driving her forever do it right the first time, its not that easy calibrating the gears and throwing them in

FYI -- the average price for installing an elocker into your non- elocker rear end at a 4wd shop is $2000. That includes new gears, setup, cutting the housing, wiring the locker and testing.

In my opinion I would just do that, but a new rear open rear end would definitely be cheaper.

Thanks. I ended up ordering the stock 3rd member from EGS. They were super helpful when I called. Should be here soon, and that noise coming from the back will be gone soon.

I did the same thing. After a bad pinion diagnosis from a top expert in the US, mine turned out to be a rear wheel bearing. The third is easy to remove. It's a ***** to lift it up while on your belly or back though.
