Replacing Rear Driveshaft?

Has anyone here replaced their rear driveshaft with the updated one from the LX470 (corrected: GX470)? If so, mind going through the steps you did? One important thing I've read is lining it back up properly so it's balanced, but that seems to be done when replacing u-joints on an old driveshaft, how do you line it up if it's a new one? I may need to replace mine because the rear seal that keeps the grease in popped out awhile back and I don't think Toyota sells that separately.

Do you mean the GX470? The LX should be longer since its based off the land crusier. What changed about the Lexus shaft?

Yes, I have. Didn't do anything special to install; unbolted old one and bolted on new one. Don't forget to use blue locktite

Haven't had any noticeable balance issues

Yes, you're correct, it's the GX470. I am not sure what improvements were made, but there was a TSB a long time ago and some members ended up with that driveshaft on their 4Runner due to the complaints about clunking (T-SB-0121-12)

I ended up buying a Cardone re-manufactured driveshaft instead of OEM, which is around $300-400. This was only $106 on eBay, it's $169 on RockAuto. I'd suggest others to buy this since it's pretty inexpensive if they still have clunking after re-greasing, then you can just take the old driveshaft apart and lube it up properly to have as a back-up.
