Replacing stock player in 2001 SR5

Not a limited but Sr5. I am considering replacing the factory CD and have a few questions. I like the Sony CDX GT630UI which has 3 pre amp outputs.
What actually connects into the back on the factory player. Is it RCA and I should just plug these into the new Sony using the factory amp? If I use the Metra harness do the wire colors "line" up. My limited understanding is that I should have a Metra plug with bare wires. The Metra plug goes into the plug that comes out of the factory unit. I then connect the bare wires on the metra harness ot the bare wires on the plug that comes with the Sony. Do these colored wires match up - red to red etc or do I need to decipher them with a set of wiring diagrams? Finally I have read about bypassing the factory amp. No problem doing this but do I need to add a new amp or what?

Get the wiring harness (Metra or whoever) for the car. You will take the factory head unit out, and then take the factory amp out (VERY easy). The harness that is connected to the bottom of the factory amp will plug into the Metra harness and then you just connect all of the wires on the harness to the harness on the cd player. The Metra harness will have a sheet of paper showing what colors go to what...for the most part they are the same (green with white line to green with white line, etc)

You won't need to add a new amp as the Sony will have a built in amp.

Thanks - did you use a Metra pocket (88-00-8000) or one from Toyota.
Also does anyone know the correct part number for the Toyota one

I used a Metra. I got it at Best Buy. Just ask them...the years are all the same for Toyota I think...or most of them anyway.

Yes I went to BB and they have changed over to their own brand (Dynex) which they claim is made by Metra. I would prefer to get the Metra

Here is a picture that sucks.

So far I really like the Sony...looks cool and not so flashy that you have to worry about someone ganking it.

I will get some better pics this weekend after I install my components, amps and subs...it will either be this weekend or next weekend b/c I am planning on taking all of the seats out, carpet, etc

Looks great!! Does it fit in the stock opening or does anything need to be modified? This may be the first thing I do to my RUNNER! Are you installing new rear speakers or just fronts? I would like to see about putting 6 3/4's in the back but hear there is some work to do so.

It fit the stock opening with no modifications at all.

I am putting JL C5 650x components in the front powered by an Eclipse 4 channel amp. I am going to replace the rears within the next few months and put JLs in the rears...either 5.25 or 6 3/4s...I haven't decided yet. Since they are rears, I will probably just put in 5.25s in.

For my subs, I am putting in a Fosgate P3001 amp and might replace my subs too..right now I just have a few older Pioneer 12s...but I think I am just going to get a nice 12" sub instead of 2....I don't need 2 subs anymore.
