Howdy again. 2002 4x4 with stock everything. I am replacing my front shocks with the Bilstein 4600 and have a problem with the spring seating properly to the bottom mount/plate. Upon releasing tension on spring compressor (McFadden? from O'Reilly's), the spring moves out of alignment on bottom plate/mount on shock to the edge dangerously close to slipping off and causing problems. I am using hand tools, no impact/air compressor.
I can only get a half turn on by hand releasing tension before spring moves out of line. Is the Bilstein mount that is why the spring won't seat? Or is spring moving because I am using hand tools and the extreme torque involved? Will an impact will release tension better? Or do I need to get a different Bilstein plate/mount for spring to seat correctly, better centered.
