I have a 2005 SR5 with 36000 miles. Daughter always has the sunroof open. No big deal. Well, it started to make sort of a grinding sound. I had my wife bring it to the dealer to look at it, thought maybe it only needed greese. No. They say the Cableing needs to be replaced and will take a full day to do. My question is, are they going to rip my upper lining apart to replace the cabling? It's never right once they tear apart something. Also they quoted me $638.00 for a 30,000 mile maitenance. Does that sound right? I'm not sure all that is involved in the 30,000 maitenance schedule. Think I would be safe bringing it somewhere else to have the 30,000 maitenance done? Seems like an awful lot of money when for all intents and purposes the truck is running great. Thanks

Sorry to hear about your sunroof problems. When and if the dealership fixes your moon roof just be sure to lube it every 6 mos if it is used often. This may help prevent excess tension and binding on that cable. Here are a couple of links which explain the lubing of the moon roof rail area. Make sure to not use the WHITE type of grease as it gets hard, cakes up and hinders the movement of some of the roof's parts. There is a TSB out for the moon roof problem. This repair shouldn't cost you any money. Just stress the fact that it has been happening since about 35k miles. As for the 30k miles service costing you $600.......OUCH! Unfortunately, that is about par as to what I was going (notice GOING) to pay here in so. California. The service with a tranny flush cost $450 plus tax but then the stealership wanted $60 extra for platinum plug replacement or a $120 for the Iridium type plugs. The total of the $450 + $120 would easily eclipse the $600 mark. I will probably do 90% of the work myself as it just involves changing out fluids, filters, plugs and lubing the joints/shafts.
